Overview of Structural Composites II

Introduction - 4 hours
PowerPoint presentation covering composite materials, safety, structural fabrics, matrices, core materials, repair techniques, material evaluation and nondestructive testing.

Composite Fabrication - 4 hours
Materials selection and tooling for a basic foam core/vacuum bagging construction, and project layout.

Composite Repair - 4 hours
Scarf repair technique, material selection, layout, repair preparation, and vacuum bagging setup.

Project Completion - 4 hours
Project evaluation, basic nondestructive testing techniques, and final exam.

DETAILS:

The course is a follow-on to the Overview of Structural Composites I course and reinforces the material from that course.

Additionally, it provides knowledge, techniques, and materials necessary to produce a project using composite foam core / vacuum bagging techniques and to create a repair using a scarf repair technique.
